As a native of Charleston and Eastern alumnus, it’s great to see a young person who cares so much about her community and university! I know Charleston has changed greatly in the last 15 years, as enrollment has also dropped significantly. It is great that the EIU volleyball team has had great success and last spring's softball season. Bringing back Coach Chris Wilkerson, I hope, will pay off; he’s a great man and proud alumnus.
Observing from afar and seeing how involved Ms. May has been as a fixture in the community, making appearances and creating many athletic and civic opportunities has been a breath of fresh air! Now she has been added to the city council and is wearing another hat to help improve the community. Nothing says “be a solution to a problem” like getting involved and trying to make things better for all.
